The National Gay Basketball Association (NGBA) was founded in 2004 with the mission of organizing the LGBT basketball community to be able to speak with one voice in the larger LGBT Sports Community. In 2005, the NGBA was incorporated and granted 501c3 non-profit status to fulfill the mission of bringing the game of basketball to LGBT players across the United States and the world.
Through community outreach the NGBA is forming LGBT basketball groups in cities across the United States, promoting a healthy lifestyle and working with HIV/AIDS organizations to test and educated players in the practice of playing safe on and off the basketball court. The NGBA also works with the Federation of Gay Games, and The Gay and Lesbian International Sports Association to help LGBT basketball players play in international competition. The NGBA is a volunteer run organization and is open to the talents of all willing to share them.
